One of the things you experience as soon as you visit, regardless of whether it is the Private Ice Café or in the store - is the warmth and presence that makes it something very special.
Back in 1888, Aabybro Dairy was a cooperative dairy, founded by farmers from seven surrounding farms in Vendsyssel. The dairy was built down to Ryå so that the water from the stream could be used to cool the milk. Production consisted primarily of cheese, milk and butter, both for the local area and for export.
In 1968, Anker Lindhardt bought the dairy and ran the dairy further. When a new product knocked the bottom out of the butter market, the dairy, led by son NH Lindhardt, chose to change gears and instead produce ice cream. The ice cream should of course be called RYÅ ICE, as a tribute to the dairy's long history at Ryå.
You will notice a warmth and a presence at the dairy that is practiced and passed down through the ages. This is symbolized, among other things, by Ice Day, which is one of the newer initiatives Aabybro Mejeri is doing.
